Why social cash is the next evolution of social networking
Here at Oppa, we’ve built a social network that lets you make real money off your content, doing what you already do everyday on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Our unique Drink Share and Tip Jar feature allows our users to reward your content using real money “Tips” or to share a $1 to $99 “Drink” to enable chat and make a new friend in the process. All these Tips and Drinks fill your Piggy Bank and can be re-shared, donated to charity or cashed out.
During our private beta, we validated our idea with over $25,000 shared between our 1000 beta testers.
Now you may ask - why disturb the status quo? Let’s talk about one use case where the status quo really does kinda suck – online dating – something everyone and their grandmother seems to have an opinion about.
Say you’re a girl. You get spam on the daily on all your social media - even on LinkedIn, because LinkedIn nowadays is used for dating too. You learn to ignore it because it’s mentally taxing: Hi. HI. You’re hot, you’re sexy, and then a few dick pics thrown in for good measure. So you zone the noise out, limiting your attention to core friends on Facebook or Snapchat and you scroll through celebrity posts on Instagram.
So even though people do genuinely want to connect with people they find interesting – at the end of the day all this spam makes it too troublesome to take a chance on anyone unknown.
I don’t wanna see your… TOO LATE.
Now say you’re a guy. Men are purpose driven on social media – usually to check out women. According to Tinder’s own statistics, 26 million matches are made on 1.4 billion swipes daily – that’s a measly match rate of 1.8 percent. To make matters worse, even after a match 80% of the time nothing comes of it… you’re ghosted. It’s no wonder men right swipe on literally everyone. Men spam because unfortunately spam works best and that’s the real world we live in. So, unless you’re young and highly attractive, Tinder’s very own statistics show that it’s a brutal numbers game with the odds stacked against you the minute you opened the app.

Our social Tip Jar approach makes it easy to meet new friends – it takes less time, less cognitive energy and its simply more effective. See someone interesting? Share a drink and chat right away! Or post something on Oppa and receive a bunch of Tips instead of the usual likes (because here at Oppa we think likes are boring). We’re speeding up the way you discover interesting people and exclusive content. Content monetization provides an effective spam filter, balancing mechanism and a high value incentive to engage. Not much different from a night out where you’d share a drink with a stranger at a real live bar and chat for a bit.
Except now, instead of wasting hours of time and money on that same night out, you can make a real connection with anyone you find interesting. Think of Oppa as a new way to meet friends, a global bar in your pocket. No crapshoot waiting at the bar twirling your thumbs. No spamming right swipe and making that same thumb sore. No spam, no ghosting, no persistent rejection because that old system is rigged, rigged!
Got followers? On Oppa, they buy you real money drinks! #OppaMe
Let’s take another example – the job hunt. You spend countless hours on a potentially wasted effort at some networking event all dressed up, exchanging business cards hoping that just something might come out of it. And you do it over again and again and still nothing happens. Likewise, attempt on LinkedIn or Facebook and most of your friend requests end up ignored.
On Oppa, type in advertising and boom - you get a list of people working in the business or the company you’ve had your eye on. Share a drink and within minutes you’re talking to five real people who might know of a private job opening. In fact, type in anything in our Explore Bar and Oppa becomes instantly useful as a search engine for relevant people.
We want Oppa to be an amplified social engagement engine, a search engine to discover interesting people and exclusive content
Although these challenges illustrate the advantages of our social Tip Jar approach over traditional social media, we don’t want Oppa to become a dating app or a job site. We intend Oppa to be an amplified social engagement engine, a search engine to discover interesting people and exclusive content. You can use Oppa to:
Discover unique content you won’t find elsewhere as content creators on Oppa are now rewarded directly for their effort by their peers
Travel. Going to NYC for the weekend? Enter “New York” in the Explore search bar and you’ll find some New Yorkers who can share the best ramen spot in town.
Get Advice. Share a drink with a doctor about that suspicious mole hiding where the sun don’t shine or talk with a lawyer about getting out of that parking ticket!
Make friends. Find and chat with people who like the same quirky things you do
If you don’t like this approach, please remember that Oppa is 100% free to use. There’s a free friend request button just like anybody else… and just like anywhere else, that friend request will probably get ignored. But share a drink and chat with someone you WANT to right away – a quick, no-spam approach and no waiting for someone to match with you.
Oppa is currently in Public Beta and remains a work in progress. We really do hope you like what my team and I have been tirelessly building these past 16 months. And if you’re just gonna slag us, might I suggest you download Oppa off the App Store and give it an honest try? We would love to hear from you, good or bad - you can always find me on Oppa @ching or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
