How Marta made $246 in one week. And all she did was chat.
We have a person on our Product Team named Marta. We recruited a thousand beta testers, added $5 to each of their accounts and we set Marta loose on them. And in just one week, her Piggy Bank grew from zero to $246.
That’s $246 that she could withdraw as cold, hard cash. $246 doing nothing more than getting to know people on a genuine level and chatting with them.
This was another quick validation of our social Tip Jar approach to social networking. Then we thought to ourselves WHOA – imagine the possibilities. What happens when 10,000 people join Oppa? 100,000? What happens when we have a million dollars in the system just being shared back and forth between all the people on Oppa?! And what happens when someone with a large Instagram following gets on Oppa?
Oppa is like Instagram, but with a real money Piggy Bank on your profile. On Oppa, you make money off your social media doing what you already do everyday on Facebook, Instagram & Snapchat
We call Oppa the world’s first Drink Sharing App. Oppa is like Instagram, but with a real money Piggy Bank on your profile. So forget about likes because here at Oppa we think likes are boring. What’s the difference between 100 likes and 1,000 likes… a bit more ego validation? On Oppa, you share and receive real money Tips and Drinks (from $1 to $99) as you discover a new world of interesting people and exclusive content. On Oppa, you make money off your social media doing what you already do everyday on Facebook, Instagram & Snapchat while advertisers make money off you.
We see social cash as the next frontier in social networking. On social networks, people are bored, disengaged, and no longer posting – Oppa solves this problem by allowing peers to reward one another for quality content and meaningful user engagement. Instead of endless liking, the act of sharing a Drink or a Tip is a real form of user appreciation and validation. Our social Tip Jar approach allows users to benefit from their own content, eliminates the spam incentive, and help users overcome the adverse selection problem inherent in meeting new friends online.
And today, we’re releasing a set of live stickers! Try them out, we have Oppa Pig, Oppa Panda and Sad Salamander.
We hope you like what we’re building – there are a lot of features to come! Find me on Oppa @ching and I’ll share a drink with you. And if you have an iPhone in one of our beta launch countries, try the app out here.
